The Clark School's Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2008. The electrical engineering curriculum was established at the University of Maryland College Park campus in the fall of 1908. The Department launched its ECE Centennial celebrations on Monday, November 26, 2007, with an Alumni & IEEE GlobeCom Networking Reception at the Jeong H. Kim Engineering Building, which attracted nearly 200 guests.
The Department is holding ECE Centennial Celebration Weekend on September 26-27, 2008, which will include an alumni reception, forum events featuring a range of experts from industry, academia, and research laboratories on the future of information systems and energy. The celebration weekend will wrap up with a major gala event at the Riggs Alumni Center, featuring Inventor Dean Kamen.
