The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Maryland, College Park offers one of the strongest and most highly-ranked education and research programs in electrical engineering in the nation. Led by 85 full-time and affiliate faculty members and many more research staff, the research programs of the department cover a wide spectrum of activities.

The department's close affiliation with a number of research institutes such as the Institute for Systems Research, the Institute for Advanced Computer Studies, the Institute for Research in Electronics and Applied Physics and the Institute for Physical   Science and Technology   provides to our students and researchers the opportunity for team-oriented, cross-disciplinary research and access to the institutes' state-of-the-art laboratories.

Maryland's proximity to Washington, DC, offers unique research opportunities with national and government laboratories such as the Army and Navy Research Labs. No other top Engineering program in the U.S. can provide access to national laboratories, federal government, and the Department of Defense.
