For More Information: Carrie Hilmer 301 405 4471 chilmer@umd.edu http://www.ece.umd.edu/colloquium Booz Allen Hamilton Distinguished Colloquium in Electrical and Computer Engineering "Compressive Sensing Based MIMO Radar" Prof. Athina Petropulu Department Chair, Electrical and Computer Engineering Rutgers University Abstract: The talk will present a new approach for colocated multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar using compressive sensing (CS). CS-based MIMO radar exploit the sparsity of targets in the illuminated space to achieve the same localization performance as traditional MIMO radar but with significantly fewer measurements. Each receive node of the MIMO radar compresses the received signal via a linear transformation, referred to  as measurement matrix. The compressively obtained samples are subsequently forwarded  to a fusion center, where an optimization problem is formulated and solved for target information. The measurement matrix plays an important role in CS recovery algorithms. The talk will also discuss optimal design of the measurement matrix and also reduced complexity suboptimal constructions for it. Biography: Athina P. Petropulu is Professor and Chair of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. Between 1992-2010 she was faculty at Drexel University. Her research interests span the area of statistical signal processing, wireless communications, signal processing in networking and biomedical signal processing. She is the recipient of the 1995 Presidential Faculty Fellow Award. She is the co-author (with C.L. Nikias) of the textbook entitled, "Higher-Order Spectra Analysis: A Nonlinear Signal Processing Framework,"(Englewood Cliffs, NJ: Prentice-Hall, Inc., 1993). Dr. Petropulu is Fellow of IEEE. She is currently serving as Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing (2009-2011).  She was IEEE Signal Processing Society Vice President-Conferences (2006-2008), and member-at-large of the IEEE Signal Processing Board of Governors. She has served as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing the IEEE Signal Processing Letters, was member of the editorial board of the IEEE Signal Processing Magazine and the EURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking. She was the General Chair of the 2005 International Conference on Acoustics Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP-05), Philadelphia PA. She is co-recipient of the 2005 IEEE Signal Processing Magazine Best Paper Award.
