Professor P. S. Krishnaprasad (ECE/ISR) has been awarded a DURIP 2012 grant by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research to support his work on principles and algorithms that underlie purposeful collective behavior in natural and engineered systems.

The new award of $302,831 (period June 27, 2012 – June 26, 2013) will help establish a Physical Test-bed System for Synthesis of Collective Behavior from Fundamental Building Blocks.

This system, to be installed in the Intelligent Servosystems Laboratory (ISL) in A.V. Williams Building room 2210, will include multiple mobile robots (a few equipped with manipulator arms), a system of cameras for motion capture, and an enhancement of computational resources in ISL. The test-bed will support investigations in the design of distributed control strategies, generation of ground-truth for algorithms to reconstruct trajectories of natural collectives, and analysis of statistical data on the dynamics of multi-agent interactions in nature and robotics.
