Liu Delivers Keynote Address at ISPA 2011
Christine Yurie Kim Eminent Professor of Information Technology and Associate Chair for Graduate Studies and Research Dr. K. J. Ray Liu delivered a keynote speech at the International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis (ISPA 2011) held in Dubrovnik, Croatia. The conference, which ran from September 4-6, sought to bring together researchers in the study of image and signal processing and computer vision.
Dr. Liu’s plenary presentation was titled “Information Anti-Forensics.” The rise of the Internet coupled with the widespread availability of digital cameras and audio recorders has created an environment in which society relies heavily on digital multimedia content when communicating information. Since digital content is easily manipulated , a number of forensic techniques have been developed to verify the authenticity of digital multimedia. In contrast, very little consideration has been given to anti-forensic operations capable of disguising the evidence of tampering in digital content.
Liu’s discussion focused on a variety of anti-forensic operations, specifically, anti-forensic techniques designed to remove evidence of an image's compression history. Using these techniques individuals are able to perform a number of image tampering operations such as double compression, cut-and-paste image forgery, and image origin falsification, then render them forensically undetectable.
The seventh annual conference of its kind, ISPA 2011 was organized by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing at the University of Zagreb, Croatia, and offered special sessions and submitted paper discussions on a wide range of topics within the field of image and signal processing. ISPA 2011 was also co-sponsored by the European Association for Signal Processing, IEEE Signal Processing Society, IEEE Region 8, IEEE Croatia Section, and IEEE Croatia Section Signal Processing Chapter
