ECE Ph.D. student and R. W. Deutsch Graduate Student Fellow Peter Dykstra won first place for his poster in the bioengineering category at Bioscience Day 2010 on Tuesday. Dykstra's poster illustrated his research in "An electrochemical DNA sensor for concentration detection of the small molecule cyclic adenosine monophosphate." This research is supported by the R. W. Deutsch Foundation and an NSF EFRI grant for biofunctionalized devices.

Dykstra also gave an oral presentation at the IEEE Sensors 2010 Conference this month, and also submitted a provisional patent to the university's Office of Technology Commercialization. Dykstra is advised by Institute for Systems Research Director and Herbert Rabin Distinguished Professor Reza Ghodssi.
