Three ECE faculty members have been awarded Department of Defense (DoD) Defense University Research Instrumentation Program (DURIP) Awards. These are grants for research instrumentation.
The ECE faculty were:
1. Rama Chellappa: Multi-sensor Remote Biometrics System
2. Edo Waks: Superconducting Magnet for Quantum Information Processing with Spin States
3. Thomas Murphy: Complexity-Based Optical Sensor Networks
Two other Clark School faculty also received DURIP awards: James Duncan of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Inder Chopra of the Department of Aerospace Engineering.
DURIP is designed to fill a critical need of scholars by purchasing state-of-the-art equipment that augments current university capabilities or develops new capabilities to perform cutting edge defense research. Academic institutions generally have difficulty purchasing instruments costing $50,000 or more under most research contracts and grants. The awards are expected to range from $50,000 to $1 million and average approximately $235,000.
