Undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, and staff from the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department joined together to celebrate the first annual ECE International Day on Wednesday, April 18, 2007. The event attracted nearly 250 participants, who gathered to experience an eclectic variety of foods, costumes, music, and dancing in celebration of the international diversity within the Department. The event was organized by Assistant/Academic Advisor Meriam Meghirbi and Associate Director of Administrative Affairs Steve Norton of the ECE Undergraduate Studies office.

Students represented their countries of origin by bringing traditional foods for fellow students to sample, dressing in traditional outfits, and bringing traditional music to play. Sixteen countries were represented at the event, including Bangladesh, Belgium, Benin, Burma, Cameroon, China, Egypt, El Salvador, India, Iran, Peru, Senegal, Taiwan, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam. The event was held in the Kay Boardrooms in the Jeong H. Kim Engineering Building on the University of Maryland College Park campus.
