I was born in Delhi, India and have lived most of my life in Kolkata, India - a city that is big, fast, slow, intimidating, home, crowded, laid back, all at the same time! Besides Kolkata, I have spent 4 years at IIT, Kharagpur - some of the best years of my life. And then I moved to Maryland, USA. It has been a strange but exciting journey overall. Now, I live near downtown Baltimore, MD with my boyfriend, Theron and our housemate.
I have a loving family: My parents, Srimati Suman Gupta and Shri Naresh Kumar Gupta in Kolkata; my brother, Pankaj, sister-in-law, Preeti and two lovely nieces, Aditi and Mihika in Delhi; And, of course, my boyfriend, Theron.... all of whom have contributed in many different ways to where I am today with respect to personality, identity and career.
I enjoy discussing passionately about politics, and socio-economic justice. In my spare time, I love reading books including fiction, science fiction, cook books, fantasy, history, science and comic books, Some of my favourites include Herman Hesse, Octavia Butler, Arundhati Roy, Love's Rite (by Ruth Vanita), Sandman series by Neil Gaiman, the 'Books of Magic' series, J. R. R. Tolkien, Calvin and Hobbes, Asterix, and Science Magazine. I love cooking and experimenting with different cuisines, especially providing variations to the basic Indian recipes. Every once in a while, I also like doing outdoor stuff such as hiking, or camping. I love quaint towns and cobblestone streets.
