A paper co-authored by ECE Professor Isaak Mayergoyz, Ph.D. student Zhenyu Zhang, and Professor Giovanni Miano of the University of Naples Federico II, Italy, has been accepted for publication in Physical Review Letters. The paper, titled "Analysis of Dynamics of Excitation and Dephasing of Plasmon Resonance Modes in Nanoparticles," offers a novel theoretical approach to the analysis of plasmon resonance modes in nanoparticles.

Plasmons resonance modes are excited when metallic or semiconductor nanoparticles are subject to optical radiation of specific frequencies. Research in plasmon resonances in nanoparticles is motivated by technological applications in microscopy, nanolithography, nanophotonics, and biosensors. The temporal analysis of plasmon resonance modes is particularly useful in the area of light controllability of plasmon resonances in semiconductor nanoparticles.
