Ye Olde Chronicles o' the BSSL

Welcome to the mysterious scroll of our history!  From these pages you will learn of our humble beginnings.

August 11, 1999:  Total Solar Eclipse over Europe is seen to be a good omen for the future lab.  Dr. Horiuchi's previous mentor (Prof. Ernst Niebur) and the Horiuchi parents go to make their own independent observations.

August 15, 1999:  Dr. Horiuchi begins his long journey from Watch City to the Land of Crabs amidst light rain and sprinkles.  The spicy wings of buffalo and moldy blue cheese are consumed along the way.  Many golden arches are seen, but feared to be the humps of the slithery yellow serpent known to feast on unwary travelers.  (NB: not a Peet's Coffee Shoppe in sight!)

August 17, 1999:  Prof. Horiuchi arrives safely at the University of Maryland...  a large bronze turtle asks riddles before allowing him to pass.

September 1, 1999:  Prof. Horiuchi begins teaching his first (Instructional TeleVision) class.  (ENEE 302/397) - Digital Microelectronics is conveyed at low resolution.

September 3, 1999: The Mystic Portal opens in the lab, producing a wormhole to the Land of the Shammites.

September 25, 1999: An auxilary light switch is installed near the Mystic Portal.

September 26, 1999: A day of firsts: TSpice is fired up, ultrasonic echoes are "heard" for the first time in the new lab, and the first pizza is consumed.

November 5, 1999: Our first lab meeting!.

July 18th, 2000: Survived our first Telluride!

July 20th, 2000: A Static-Sensitive Sign goes up! (thanks Brooks!)

February 14th, 2059: (!?) - Sept 30, 2000 Kaushik and Matt build a SolarBotics walking robot!
