A High Frequency Silicon Cochea
Designers: M. Erturk, T. Horiuchi
Here's a photo of our bonded AER cochlea chip, just back from fab.
This is a 128-stage silicon cochlea (voltage mode, cascaded second-order
lowpass filters with a high-pass filter output) with 3 neuron types at
each tap. You can see in the photo four rows of 32 stages. There
are two phase-signaling neurons that fire on the up and down going zero-crossings
and one "level" neuron that integrates the half-wave rectified signal into
a mean-rate code. These spikes are sent off the chip via the address-event
protocol.
Just got the chip back, so we're off testing the device now! - it passes
the power-ground-short test!
