Director, Alireza Khaligh

Alireza Khaligh Alireza Khaligh is an Assistant Professor and The Director of Power Electronics, Energy Harvesting and Renewable Energies Laboratory (PEHREL) at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and the Institute for Systems Research in the University of Maryland at College Park (UMCP). Dr. Khaligh received the B.S. and M.S. degrees (with highest distinction) from Sharif University of Technology (SUT), Tehran, Iran, and a Ph.D. degree from Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), Chicago, IL, all in electrical engineering. He was a Post-Doctoral Research Associate in electrical and computer engineering department in the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), Urbana, IL.

Dr. Khaligh is the recipient of the Best Vehicular Electronics Paper Award from IEEE Vehicular Electronics Society (in 2012), the Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award from Society of Automotive Engineers (in 2010) and the Armour College of Engineering Excellence in Teaching Award from IIT (in 2009). He is also the recipient of the Exceptional Talents Fellowship and the Distinguished Undergraduate Student Award in Sharif University of Technology presented jointly by the Minister of Science, Research and Technology and President of Sharif University. He is a Member of the Vehicle Power and Propulsion Committee, IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS), a Member of IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS), Industrial Electronics Society (IES), IEEE Education Society, and Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Dr. Khaligh is the General Chair of the 2013 IEEE Transportation Electrification Conference and Expo. He was the Program Chair of the 2011 IEEE Vehicle Power and Propulsion Conference, Chicago, IL and the Program Co-Chair of the 2012 IEEE Transportation Electrification Conference as well as the Grants and Awards Chair for the 2012 IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference.

Dr. Khaligh is an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology (TVT), a Guest Editor for the Special Section of IEEE TVT on Sustainable Transportation Systems, and a Guest Associate Editor for the Special Issue of IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics on Transportation Electrification and Vehicle Systems. He was a Guest Editor for Special Section of IEEE TVT on Vehicular Energy Storage Systems and also a Guest Editor for Special Section of IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics on Energy Harvesting.

Dr. Khaligh is a member of the Power Sources Manufacturers Association (PSMA) University Resources. Dr. Khaligh is the principle author/coauthor of over 100 journal and conference papers as well as two books including Energy Harvesting: Solar, Wind, and Ocean Energy Conversion Systems (CRC Press, Dec. 2009), and Integrated Power Electronics Converters and Digital Control (CRC Press, May 2009). His major research interests include modeling, analysis, design, and control of power electronic converters, hybrid electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, energy scavenging/harvesting from environmental sources, renewable energies, and design of energy-efficient power supplies for battery-powered portable applications.
