Five ECE Students Selected for L-3 Scholarships

Five ECE students have been selected to receive scholarships from L-3 Communications through the A. James Clark School of Engineering.

Rebecca Baier, John Garvey
, and Pedro Peña each received an L-3 Communications Corporation Scholarship for $4150, and Saara Khan and Prateek Kukreja each received an L-3 Communications Corporate Partner Scholarship for $1000.

These students will be invited to attend L-3 Communications events each semester, beginning with L-3 Day on March 3rd, 2011.

L-3 has pledged a $1 million dollar gift to the Clark School over three years, benefiting students in many ways. The gift established L-3 Graduate Research Fellowships and other scholarships, including the ones awarded to ECE students Baier, Garvey, Peña, Khan, and Kukreja.

Approximately $300,000 of this funding was given to the Clark school for the first year. It will support diversity programs, student organizations, competitions, and the Clark School Corporate Partners Program.

The funds will also support the Women in Engineering Program and the Center for Minorities in Science and Engineering, along with student teams like TerpsRacing and Robotics@Maryland.
