ECE Alumnus Allen Todd Named COMTek’s New VP for BPL Operations

Communication Technologies, Inc. (COMTek), the nation’s leader in commercial deployment of broadband over powerlines (BPL), has named ECE alumnus Allen Todd as the firm's new vice president for BPL Operations.

Todd received his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland. He is a registered professional engineer in Virginia and has served as president of both the Virginia Municipal Electric Association (VMEA) and the Municipal Electric Power Association of Virginia (MEPAV). Todd received the American Public Power Association (APPA) annual innovator award for his work with COMTek in deploying city-wide broadband Internet access via powerlines in 2004.

"I am very excited to be part of the company that represents the future of BPL in the United States,” said Todd. “I intend to make sure that we can communicate successfully with as many utility officials as possible across the U.S."

COMtek’s BPL services in Manassas, Virginia, mark the first commercial application of broadband over powerline technology to be deployed on a city-wide basis anywhere in the United States.
