Jonathan Simon Promoted to Full Professor
President Wallace Loh and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering recently promoted Professor Jonathan Z. Simon from associate professor to full professor.
“I’m very grateful to all the folks in ECE, Biology, ISR, and NACS, for providing such a fantastic academic environment. They encourage me, and allow me to thrive, in both my research and teaching,” said Simon.
Simon’s university appointment is jointly held between the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the Department of Biology, and the Institute for Systems Research.
His expertise is in applied and theoretical auditory neuroscience. He earned his doctorate in physics from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and did postdoctoral research in theoretical general relativity (University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and University of Maryland College Park) before embracing the field of neuroscience.
Simon is the co-director of the Computational Sensorimotor Systems Laboratory. He is also a member of the Program in Neuroscience and Cognitive Science (NACS), co-director of the University of Maryland Magnetoencephalography Center, and a Faculty Fellow in the Integrated Life Sciences honors program.
The ECE department congratulates Professor Simon on his promotion and wishes him the best of luck for the future. The promotion will be effective July 1, 2014.
