Mayergoyz Co-Editor of New 3-Volume Set on Hysteresis

ECE Professor Dr. Isaak Mayergoyz is the co-editor of a new three-volume treatise, titled The Science of Hysteresis. The treatise, which Mayergoyz co-edited with Giorgio Bertotti, senior scientist at Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca Metrologica (INRIM) in Torino, Italy, contains over 2100-pages on all aspects of hysteresis, from differential equations, and binary detection, to models of unemployment and magnetization dynamics. In addition to being co-editor, Mayergoyz also contributed seven chapters to the three-volume set.

Hysteresis can be defined as a multibranch non-linearity where the transition from one branch to another is controlled by the past history. The history-induced properties of hysteresis nonlinearities make hysteresis research very challenging, yet interesting and attractive to researchers. Hysteresis phenonomenon is ubiquitous, and is encountered in many different areas of natural science, engineering, and economics.

The Science of Hysteresis consists of contributions from an international list of authors from a wide-range of disciplines, and is rich with supporting illustrations, figures and equations. Volume one covers mathematical models, differential equations, stochastic aspects of hysteresis binary detection using hysteresis, and models of unemployment in economics. Volume two covers physical models of magnetic hysteresis and aspects of magnetisation dynamics, while volume three covers hysteresis phenomena in materials.

The treatise is a valuable resource for applied mathematicians, physicists, engineers, materials scientists and economists engaged in the fundamental study of hysteresis and its far-reaching applications.
