MEET THE STUDENTS

Mohammed's Three Favorite Things about the ECE Department:
1) The dedication of professors to the students
2) Professors in the ECE department are very well organized
3) ECE faculty who work in the physics department, such as Dr. Tom Antonsen and Dr. Ed Ott, are electrical engineers who have specialized in physics and have been down the path that I would like to travel—their advice and help is always appreciated
Advice to Incoming Students:
Get to know the professors very well. When you are down or are really in need, you can always count on them for support. Learn from them as much as possible because they have a lot to offer. |

Mohammed
talks about ECE @ Maryland:
"Since I was young, I always enjoyed mathematics and physics. Engineering, I thought, would be the way to go since it is the only major that really applies both majors in its field.
Maryland had a more diverse curriculum than the other schools I looked at. Over 15 credits are granted for taking technical courses outside of the major, like math and theoretical physics. Since I wanted to stay as close to my favorite majors as possible, I decided to come to Maryland.
The professors at Maryland show such interest in the subjects and present ideas that are related to their research that really got me thinking.
At many other universities, professors do not care for their students and are only interested in their research. It is not like that in the ECE department. When professors see a student that is really interested, they works to help the student in any way they can.
The University of Maryland challenged me in every way I can think of. Maryland taught me to never quit until a definite answer for a problem has been reached. I found myself spending a lot more time trying to figure something out on my own rather than going straight to the professor for help. This was a very useful trait preparing me for my future career.
In my career, I hope to make significant contributions to the world of science as our predecessors and current faculty at the ECE department have made and are making."
