Shabnam's Three Favorite Things about the ECE Department:

1) Ranking
2) Location
3) Research environment

Advice to Incoming Students:

Enjoy the multiple dimensions in your student life at Maryland.

Shabnam
talks about ECE @ Maryland:

"I have always liked math and geometry since my childhood, and this attracted me to engineering. I also enjoyed building and creating stuff, and to me, engineering is all about being creative.

I got my B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering/Control from Sharif University of Technology, and an M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering /Power Systems from the University of Tehran, both in Tehran, Iran.

I liked the University of Maryland's ranking and its location, as well as the fact that the universities that I had studied at were known at Maryland.

I also liked the fact that you can have multiple dimensions in your student life at Maryland. It is an inviting environment for academic work, as well as social activities.

A high percentage of students are international. I had the opportunity to get in touch with some new cultures, and experience new friendships. The environment is competitive, but friendly. ECE has a strong communication group with outstanding faculty.

My research focused on the theoretical limits of secure wireless communication in a non-friendly environment."
