Mehdi's Three Favorite Things about the ECE Department:
1) Excellent resources—students, faculty, staff and facilities
2) Innovations and new ideas are encouraged
3) Close proximity to Washington, DC
Advice to Incoming Students:
My advice would be to know more about the other students, faculty, and staff before they graduate, get involved in student activities, and explore Washington DC.

Mehdi
talks about ECE @ Maryland:
"I was interested in engineering from the time I could pronounce my name. I was spending a lot of time with hardware and tools from an early age.
The University of Maryland was responsive when I inquired about the program, and my future faculty advisor encouraged me to come here to pursue my Ph.D.
My advisor was very supportive of me to do research.
Through a collaboration with my advisor and an ECE alumnus, I won the Maryland Business Plan Competition. We initiated a new method for routing in wireless networks that received much attention from experts in the research community. Also, our research in Internet Security resulted in one invention disclosure and one patent with viable commercial values.
There is a good relationship among faculty and students in the ECE department. Also, I liked the diversity of graduate students. After the academic and technical achievements, the most valued experience that I gained was working in a very diverse multicultural environment and knowing a lot about different people and cultures.
Outside the classroom, I hung out with my friends and enjoyed outdoor activities: hiking, camping and sometimes, if the graduate life permitted, traveling. I also served as a board member of the ECE Graduate Student Association for two years, as well as president."
