MEET THE STUDENTS

Gabriel's Three Favorite Things about the ECE Department:

1) The high level of education (courses, professors, research)
2) Very helpful professors
3) Meeting and socializing with other students from the department

Advice to Incoming Students:

Take your work seriously, but at the same time don't ignore your social life.

Gabriel
talks about ECE @ Maryland:

"I come from Iasi, Romania, where I did my undergrad studies at the Technical University. After my studies I spent 2 years in Germany and then I decided to come in the United States to pursue my Ph.D. studies.

When I was in high school I used to like math and physics and this attracted me to engineering.

I was drawn to Maryland because it is very well ranked among the American universities. Another good thing about UMD is the fact that is so close to Washington DC, which is a nice place.

Prof. Nuno Martins has served as my advisor at Maryland. My research is on DTN and Ant Algorithms.

The atmosphere in the department is very good. I like the interaction with many students from different cultures. Because of this interaction with so many people, my experience at Maryland changed me, in the sense that I became more open towards different people and different cultures.

Beside the studies, I have enjoyed climbing at the CRS, and also playing football (soccer) and participating at the events organized by the ECEGSA.

Students should choose this program for its high level of education, very good courses in different fields, top research and very good professors."
