MEET THE STUDENTS

Brooke's Three Favorite Things about the ECE Department:

1) My advisor
2) The professors
3) Fellow graduate students

Advice to Incoming Students:

Take your education into your own hands. Fulfill the requirements and follow the rules, but also seek out things that you want to learn.

Brooke
talks about ECE @ Maryland:

"After earning a BSEE at Rice University in Houston, TX, I attended the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden, where I earned a Masters degree. I became interested in Maryland after I read some research papers by Professor Ephremides and was enthralled. I knew I wanted to do research under his guidance.

At Maryland, I studied communication theory as it applies to wireless networks. I did research on broadcast stability and throughput.

The professors in ECE are leading some very top-notch research and it was a real pleasure to learn from them.

Also, I really liked the other graduate students. My colleagues were very talented people from all over the world. I've learned so much from them—and not just about engineering.

I attended weekly seminars with a large group of students and professors, and the atmosphere was great: people were pretty relaxed but they knew when to take work seriously.

I was a member of Eta Kappa Nu, the EE Honors Society, and was very involved with student groups on campus.
