TITLE:
Optical and Thermal Properties of Nanoporous Materials and Devices

ABSTRACT:
Materials with nanoscale structure exhibits very different physical properties compared to its bulk counterparts. In this talk, I'm going to discuss about nanoporous silicon, its optical and thermal properties and how to characterize them. Also I'm going to introduce integrated optical sensor we developed using nanoporous silicon.

BIO:
Kyowon Kim is a graduate student pursuing PhD degree in the department of electrical and computer engineering at University of Maryland, College Park, under guidance of Prof. Thomas Murphy. He received B.S. in physics from Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea in 2003 and M.S. in electrical engineering from State University of New York(SUNY) at Buffalo in 2009. His current research is focused on characterizing anisotropic thermal properties of nanoporous silicon thin film.
