"About Natural Gas and Hydraulic Fracturing"
At the heart of the global energy debate is the realization that the worlds demand for resources must be met not only by greater supply, but also by cleaner energy sources that minimize environmental impact and preserve quality of life. Natural gas is one such energy solution that is abundantly available and less carbon-intensive than both oil and coal. This presentation will explore the economic potential of natural gas development in the U.S. and provide an in-depth view of hydraulic fracturing, the technology used to develop natural gas resources. The presentation will also explore the role of ExxonMobil and its subsidiary, XTO Energy, in promoting responsible operations for developing natural gas resources and advancing industry best practices.
Rhonda Pope is the U.S. Black Oil Optimizer for ExxonMobil Refining & Supply Company. Rhonda graduated from the University of Louisville with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 2001 and an M.S. in Chemical Engineering in 2002.
Rhonda began her career in the petrochemical industry as Project Design Engineer in 2002 at the Exxonmobil Refinery in Beaumont, Texas. At the Beaumont Refinery, Rhonda also held assignments at the process engineer for a Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit, Refinery Economist, Refinery Feedstock and Products Coordinator, and a Process Unit Supervisor for Distillate Hydrotreating, Fluid Catalytic Cracking, and Sulfur Treating units overseeing more than 200 unit operators and supervisors.
In 2009, Rhonda transferred to the Exxonmobil Refining & Supply Headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia, and has held assignments as the Global Demurage Section Head and the Heavy Fuel Oil Product Optimizer.
In her current assignment, Rhonda is the Mid-Continent Crude Optimizer responsible for issuing purchase signals for crude supply to the Joliet and Billings Refineries.
