Glenn III' Subject: Xwin Licensing Issues OIT recently dropped support for the campus-wide Xwin licenses. Thanks to Cliff Russell using his influence, we were able to get license coverage for the remainder of this year. If you use Xwin (a utility used to access Glue/Unix/Linux machines) and have licensing problems (a pop up window will appear when you start Xwin indicating the license has expired), please change the current license by following the instructions below. -Click Start->Run->enter "cmd" in the text box and click ok -Type "ipconfig" -Make a note of the information in the IP Address field -Click Start->All Programs->Xwin32 5.3->Xconfig->select the licensing tab->Enter the following information based on the first part of your IP address that you noted earlier. If 129.2. is the first part of your IP address, enter 33455-56662-23077-57425. If 128.8. is the first part of your IP address, enter 50403-51856-64292-9335. Click Apply and Click Ok. -Open the following file in a text editor such as notepad "C:\Program Files\StarNet\X-Win32 5.3\Xwin32.ini" and change the information after "Serial=" to the new licensing information indicated above based on your IP address. This should resolve your problems as soon as you restart Xwin. If you still have problems or if you would prefer the Help Desk to handle the change, please send an email to ecehelp@ece.umd.edu and we will help you resolve the issue.
