ENEE 698B - Computer Engineering Seminar

Changes to the above schedule will be accepted only if a student requests changing from a topic/week with three students scheduled, to a different week where only one student is currently scheduled.

Each topic is covered by two or three students.

With two students, the seminar can be organized in one of the following manners:

• Option 1, one presentation: The two students combine to select one overview paper, and one or two technical papers. One student presents a maximum 10-minute overview plus 10 minutes technical details. The second student presents 20 minutes in additional technical details. The class must read the overview paper and at least one of the two technical papers. There will be about 10 minutes at end of class for questions and answers.

• Option 2, two presentations. Each student selects one overview paper and one technical paper; the papers do not have to be related. The class is split with two 20-minute presentations, of which the first 5 minutes is overview, next 15 minutes technical. The class must read both overview papers, but only one of the two technical papers. There will be about 10 minutes at end of class for questions and answers.

With three students, the seminar can be organized in one of the following manners:

• Option 1, one presentation: The three students combine to select one overview paper, and one or two technical papers. One student presents a maximum 10-minute overview plus 5 minutes in technical details. Each of the other two students presents an additional 15 minutes of technical details. The class must read the overview paper and at least one of the two technical papers. There will be about 5 minutes at end of class for questions and answers.

• Option 2, two presentations: One student selects an overview paper and a short technical paper, or one long technical paper that includes a brief introduction. The other two students select one overview paper and one technical paper. The first students presents for 15 minutes; a 5-minute introduction and 10 minute technical details. The other two students present for 30 minutes, with a 5 to 10 minute introduction. There will be about 5 minutes at end of class for questions and answers.

Important: You must keep track of the time of your presentation. Your grade will be deducted significantly for a presentation that is too long (more than 1 minute too long), or too short (more than 1 minute short). Students should practise the presentation ahead of time to ensure that they stay on this strict time budget. The penalty can be as much as 10 percent of your presentation grade per minute that your presentation is too short or too long.
