Several of you have been looking at how to use the codec on the Tiger boards. I called DSP Research yesterday to find out some details. READING from the CODEC When reading samples from the codec, the R/L bit in the status register (see TABLE 7-9 on page 7-6 of the manual) tells whether the sample is from the right or left channel. Unfortunately, I forget to ask if 0 is for the right or left channel but this should be easy to find out by experimentation. There are two bits in Control Register 1 (see TABLE 7-13 on page 7-8) that determine what samples are read. LCHAN RCHAN 0 0 Codec held in reset and disconnect from serial ports 1 0 The left channel is enabled. All samples come from the left channel. 0 1 The right channel is enabled. All samples come from the right channel. 1 1 Both channel are enabled. Right and left samples alternate. Look at the R/L status bit to see which one has been received WRITING to the CODEC The LCHAN and RCHAN determine where the samples go as described in the table above. If both channels are enabled, The R/L status bit tells you where the sample will be sent. Regards, S. Tretter
