Three New Staff Members Join Department

 

Ron Sumner, Betty Penniman Retire

Mr. Ronald Sumner and Ms. Elizabeth (Betty) D. Penniman both retired from the department last summer. Both were with the department for more than 30 years.

Ms. Penniman was the Data Processing Production Control Manager for the department. Mr. Sumner was a Supervising Engineering Technician I. Both Ms. Penniman and Mr. Sumner were integral members of the department. Their achievements and contributions significantly helped the department achieve its current level of success. They will both be missed.

 

Three New Staff Members Join Department
Mr. Asante Shakuur
Mr. Asante Shakuur joined the Department this semester as the Associate Director for the Cross-Disciplinary M.S. in Telecommunications program. This newly-created position is part of a recent effort by the Department to increase the visibility and enrollment in this exciting program to both industry and government organizations.

After graduating from Indiana University with a B.S. degree in Public Affairs, Mr. Shakuur worked for Digicom Corp., in Bethesda, and Electronic Data Systems (EDS), in Herndon, Va. before joining the department.

Mr. Shakuur is responsible for the marketing and administration of the M.S. in Telecommunications program.

Ms. Katrina Greene
Ms. Katrina Greene joined the Department last summer as an Administrative Assistant to Prof. André Tits.

Ms. Greene assists Dr. Tits with the editorial duties of IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, a monthly journal of the IEEE. Dr. Tits is Editor for Technical Notes and Correspondence for that journal. Ms. Greene was employed by the University’s Department of Continuing and Extended Education before joining the Department.

Responsibilities Ms. Greene assumes include management of the journal database, facilitating correspondence, and assistance with communications with the journal’s authors and associate editors.

Ms. Christine Weimer
Ms. Christine Weimer joined the Department last summer as a Systems Analyst.

Before joining the Department, Ms. Weimer was employed by Hughes Information Technology Systems as an Information Systems Associate/Webmaster. She has also worked for Cray Research, Inc., and Learning Tree. She received her B.A. degree from Salisbury State University.

Ms. Weimer is responsible for providing technical support to end users, including all aspects of software, hardware, WAN/LAN, WWW and database administration.
