Dr. Tingye Li, AT&T Labs

The department was honored to host laser pioneer Dr. Tingye Li, of AT&T Laboratories, who gave a talk on April 4, titled “Innovations and Competition Transform Lightwave Communications.”

Li spoke about technologies and architectures for building new local access networks, and upgrading embedded terrestrial long-distance infrastructures.

Dr. Andrew Viterbi, QUALCOMM, Inc.

The department was also honored to have Dr. Andrew Viterbi, Vice-President of QUALCOMM, Inc., an innovator in wireless technology, as its second guest on April 25. Viterbi spoke on “Wireless and Digital Communication: A Signal Processing Perspective.”

Viterbi detailed current and upcoming wireless technologies, as well as digital signal processing through terrestrial mediums.
