Academic Information

Course Registration
Over the summer, you should begin thinking about what classes you would like to take your first semester. Consult with your academic advisor to help you choose not only your first semester classes but also to help you plan your coursework. After you arrive, you will be expected to complete a Plan of Study (coursework plan) which will map out all the courses you will take to fulfill the degree requirements. Click here for course descriptions.

You can view the schedule of classes and register online at http://testudo.umd.edu. In order to register for courses, you will need to establish a directory ID and password, which will also serve as your official university email address. Also, while you are registering for your courses, please be aware of the Registrar's policies on dropping and adding courses and the registration deadlines for graduate students. You may be financially liable if you drop a course after the first day of classes without simultaneously adding one of equal credit hours, even if you have tuition remission.

PhD Qualifying Requirement - Written Exam
PhD students may choose to take the written part of the qualifying requirement this August. See the Graduate Handbook for more information about the exam. (The next written exam will be offered in January 2008.)
